Dear Ms. White,

I was wrong about "shook"and "shaken" and your usage, though awkward, is correct- shook is the past tense for shake; shaken is a past participle. Thanks to you, I learned some grammar today, TY

However, I stand by my assertion that your essay is flawed.

Dr. Hunter,

I have seen statements, not studies, that supplemental calcium goes to arteries, not bones. Any thoughts? Also, I use BORON for bone health. In older males, testosterone supplementation makes muscle, bones, heart and brain healthier, assuming no significant rise in PSA.

Dear Mr.Trapulionis,

A well written Oz pov on Climate change. You show a picture of America's dystopian nightmare,Trump. .you could show a photo of that incompetent bbden who just had major climate legislation signed, sealed and delivered. Maybe not as incompetent as the press thought. If you want major criminal photos for destroying the climate, th quadrumvirate of putin, xi, modi and bolsonano will fit the bill.

A non-Oz American view of what will determine our climate state: the temperatures at the equator. Once >110deg F, human life is unsustainable. In spite of your compliant bangladeshi womanstory, the equatorial people will migrate north and south. Siberia will e rich farmland. inconceivale wars and chaos will ensue.

We are all responsible, none more so than in america which knows the truth. we are a car addicted society.

Ms.Dim,Intereting article.

One thing vital to my well-functioning 76 yr/old brain (knock on wood =my head) are supplements - especially healthy fats (fish/dpa/mct/swansons) and nootropics and longevity agents such as bacopa, phospatidyl serine, lithium orotate, fisetine, berberine, nmn, pterostilene-it is along list. my goto site for learning about supplements is examine.com, only reporting human studies.

Sean,

Your title is misleading - your story of Araham Wald is a story of logic, not mathematics per se.

Wald was a superb maathematician; his and many other mathematical tales are in Jordan Ellenberg's How Not to be Wrong. An A+ book.

As an older person who is healthy, at my age there is scant difference between time and health. I live cmfortably zen-style on SSI, so money is secondary. I see too many older people with diseases for whom time is secondary. And then, there is the delightful Mark Twain wisdom: Many men die at 27 but are not buried until 72. It is how we use our time that is the crux..

Pity. You did not explain the causes of mutations but the types. Sickle cell trait is highly selected for in malarial areas; it is the unfortnate circumstance of both parents having the trait where half the offspring have the trait, a quarter do not, and a quarter have sickle cell anemia.
