Dear Dr. Hunter,

It is always a gift and learning-experience to read one of your essays

I would like to suggest a simple way, that takes some discipline, to enhance episodic memory: HABIT.

If you always put your keys where you usually keep them, if you put your bankcard where it belongs, ad infinitum, memory becomes much easier as habit replaces memory and there is also muscle memory built in. So, at a very young 75, I have developed strong habits that I follow religiously.

This clears up the old noggin for my current unlikely project - learning Mandarin so when I marry my Chinese LDR (hopefully soon - heartache deluxe being apart), I do my part in communication with this remarkably beautiful orthopedic surgeon. We will speak "chinglish".

BTW, the Nabakov quote alone is worth the price of admission.

With high regard,

Peter (H. Dohan, MD)
